Will my child receive letter grades?
Yes. This is the first year that the students will receive letter grades. A=90-100, B=80-89, C=74-79, D=70-73, F=69 and below. If your child receives a poor grade, please talk to him/her about this. And please remember that there are many grades that factor into the final report card grade. Be sure you have access to Synergy. This is our online grading system. How will I know about homework and special dates? Please check my website often for homework assignments and upcoming events. The main communication tool, in regards to assignments, will be your child’s agenda. This is where your child will write down all pertinent information, including daily homework assignments. The agenda is a great tool to use because it helps children become organized and accountable for their work. Please check your child’s agenda every night and have them SHOW you the work. After they do this, please initial the bottom to let me know you are aware of their responsibilities. How much is ASP? ASP is $7.00 per day. Can I volunteer in the classroom? Sure! I love to have volunteers. If you have special areas of interest or expertise such as science or story telling, please let me know. If you would like to volunteer to help in other capacities please let me know as well. Think about the Penny War and Junior Achievement in the spring! What kind of testing is there in 4th grade? Just like in previous grades, we have common and summative assessments. The only standardized test is the Georgia Milestones in the spring. The students will also have the MI and RI three times a year. These are math and reading tests designed to assess students at their current level of performance. Teachers and parents use this information to better meet the needs of their student or child. What should my child bring home everyday? Each child needs to take home his/her Homework Folder and agenda daily. There will be some days that books will be taken home. There is usually math homework every day. How can I contact the teacher? The best way to reach me is by email. Please feel free to send in a note or call the school if that’s the best way for you to reach me. [email protected] What is there is a transportation change? We cannot accept emails and/or texts about changes in transportation. Please send in a note or call the office before 1:45 is there is a change. Please do not write in your child’s agenda about transportation changes. I need a separate note so I can display it or if the office may need it. How much homework should I expect? Personally, I do not believe in giving hours and hours of homework. I understand there is life after school. However, you should expect approximately 40 minutes of homework (including reading daily). Most days, the children are given time in class to get started and/or finish the work. If it is taking hours to complete it, please don’t continue. You may write a note or send an email to explain the circumstance. What is differentiation? Differentiation means getting the best out of every pupil so that they are able to show what they know, understand and what they can do. Differentiatedteaching is a process which includes planning curriculum aims, teaching strategies, resources, teaching methods and ways of interacting with pupils while giving special consideration to: -differentiation between pupils according to ability -the different ways pupils learn -the different speeds at which pupils learn |
